Understanding the Signs and Distance Formats
Depending on the specific target layout, you will encounter two main styles of shooting positions:
- Stationary Shots: All four of your arrows are shot from a single peg at a fixed distance.
- Walk-up or Fan Shots: You will shoot your arrows from different pegs at the station, either moving closer to the target with each shot (walk-up) or spreading out across different angles (fan).
How to Play: The Four-Arrow System
Unlike the three-arrow elimination system used on our unmarked trails, the Marked IFAA round requires you to shoot exactly four arrows at every single target.
The Round: You stand at the designated peg for your division and shoot all four of your arrows. You do not stop if you hit the center; you shoot all four regardless of where they land.
Scoring Potential: Because every arrow scores, consistency is key. A single bad shot won't eliminate you, but keeping all four arrows in the high-scoring zones is how you build a winning score.
Scoring: Consistency is Key
Every arrow you shoot has the potential to score points. The target faces feature distinct scoring rings, dividing the target into an inner bullseye and outer scoring zones.
Points are awarded uniformly for every arrow that lands in a scoring region:
Target Zone | Points Per Arrow |
|---|---|
Inner Circle (Spot/Bullseye) | 5 points |
Outer Scoring Rings | 3 or 4 points (depending on the specific ring/round format) |
With four arrows per target, a perfect score on any individual target is 20 points.
Important Rules for Members & Visitors
Line Cutting: Just like on our unmarked course, during our regular weekly club musters, an arrow shaft only needs to touch the line of a higher scoring zone to count for the higher value. In formal competitions, the arrow must completely cut through the line into the higher zone.
Equipment Setup: Because you know the exact yardages beforehand, this course is the perfect place to use your sight marks or dial in your gaps before hitting the unmarked trails.
